66 Posts. #35 · Jun 3, 2020. I see @lowski never replied and I realize this post is old but I got the same thing on my LR3 2006. My issue ended up being that my leaky "sealed-for-life" transmission ultimately produced the "Limited gears available" fault, and I needed a new transmission pan and oil.
Disco 3 transmission issues. 1 at round town speeds the tachometer has a noticeable "hunt" of around 300 rpm, if you listen carefully you can hear the engine speed change accordingly so it's not a tachometer playing up. 2 about every 300 or so Kim's of highway driving the tranny drops into limited gear mode.
If a warning light illuminated this time, there should be a fault code logged. brake light switch. brake light bulbs with oem ones. cleaned the TCM did not see any signs of corrosion. new battery. new alternator. transmission fluid change with new solenoids. checked all fuses outside in inside. cleaned all ground points inside and outside. tried to recalibrate the SAS.

LR3 Ignition problem. I got home tonight to find my wife's 2006 LR3 in ghost land. I'm getting a Transmission Fault warning - limited gears available. Can't get it out of park. The car starts but when I stop and remove the key. The message is "key in ignition", which it isn't. Also can't lock the doors. Codes - coming up P0659, P0171 in 1 and 2.
Hi! Have a 2006 Land Rover LR3. A transmission fault limited gears available comes up with F displayed but the car would continue to drive. Then overnight my battery drained and would get a jump start. Started right up. Then overnight would drain again. Checked the 1 yr old battery and alternator, they are good.
